Job Description:
The Production Coordinator role is responsible for working on books after editing and indexing stages by making chapter layouts using InDesign, drawing figures as required etc and taking the book to printing stages. The role is responsible for doing any production-related tasks.
Required Technical Skills
• Knowledge of InDesign, CorelDRAW, Photoshop
Optional
• Knowledge in PageMaker and QuarkExpress
Objectives
• Meeting set productivity and quality targets
• Meeting set deadlines on books
Core Responsibilities
Take ownership of the book in all production stages from the layouts stages to uploading it for printing:
Draw figures/diagrams using Coreldraw
Do chapter layouts using InDesign. Ensure quality of layouts.
Communicate with proof readers
Make proofing corrections recommended by proof reader
Design book cover
Make the book’s final PDF
Ensure transparency of the layout process to other members of the editorial roles through accurate reporting on the weekly status
Be proactive and creative in identifying potential problems regarding production activities on your books and liaise with the relevant people to take appropriate action to solve such problems.
Inform the Line Manager in a timely manner on problems that require his/her intervention.
Maintain excellent communication with the LM and editors about the status of books in production.
Liaise with other departments, such as Marketing and Sales, when required.
Be proactive in managing layout issues that have implication for the image of the brand, such as logo visibility in print, book templates etc.
Other tasks
• Update Catalog on Regular Basis
• Create PDF files for Marketing as and when required
• Liaise with photographers and Project Manager on cover images.
• Safari and XML Process
• E-books
